In Search of Health

Welcome,

This is my very first blog and I have to say I'm a little nervous that I have gotten in a little over my head with the technology part of this.  I decided that I wanted to start this blog to help promote a Nutrition Revolution to further the truth of what healthy eating really is and it's practical application from a regular persons perspective.

I am not a scientist, a doctor, or nutritionist.  I am a stay-at-home mom and a wife with a thirst for Health information as it applies to food, organic supplementation, diet and nutrition.  I prefer a holistic (whole body) approach.  I have been a student of nutrition, gathering information and researching the subject for more than 10 years.

My goal is to write about the practical application of food and health from an everyday persons perspective.  I will try and be as concise as possible.

I will try and provide direction (as I had very little) to interesting articles and links to thought-provoking websites and newsletters, that have information that is important and vital to the state of our health and our children's health.  Then you can make your own decision.

I have found that eating the USDA Food Pyramid "recommended number of servings" of even "whole" grains, causes us to store fat, instead of burning it off as fuel.  This is all through the hormone insulin which is released when we eat this way.  Insulin is a fat storing hormone that is released when we eat these foods in amounts recommended by the USDA.  It really is that simple.

It seems that many people have followed, and are following, the government food pyramid guidelines (myself included) without much success at weight loss or health, if any success at all.  This is because of our hormones, which we release through eating the way we have been advised too, by the USDA dietary guidelines.  The Food Pyramid has us eating way too many servings of sugars and processed grains (flour).

My journey to weight loss began over 10 years ago doing exactly what these unhealthy guidelines suggested; eating a low fat, whole grain diet, to lose weight.  This led me to a struggle that I am amazed that I had the sheer will to white-knuckle through, and to keep on and continue to pursue a healthy weight and a healthy body.  I was determined to make it work somehow.

So, I ate less and exercised more.  In fact, I hired a personal trainer, lifted weights, and did cardio sometimes for 1 hour and 10 minutes, a day, at a very high intensity.  I added running along side my daughter and her bike once a week, took up a yoga class, a core fusion aerobic type of class, and went hiking on the Palos Verdes hiking trails.  So, I was exercising 6 days a week.  I watched my diet carefully, logging in my food, and GAINED weight doing this.  I burned out my adrenals and thyroid pushing my body and eating this way.

So, moving more and eating less of what the Food Pyramid suggests did not work.  I did everything I was supposed too.  But it didn't work.

I finally found a way to drop weight quickly through a protocol prescribed in the 1950's by Doctor Simeons which forced my body to burn fat very effectively, with a hormone called HCG.  And I found that it was extremely effective for fat loss, and can be a safe way to loose weight.  But here's the problem I encountered.  If you start to eat the amount of carbohydrates recommended in the Food Pyramid after you take the weight off with HCG (or any other way), the weight starts coming back on, which it did.  I just hadn't gotten it yet - carbohydrates, in any form, create insulin and insulin stores fat.  So, eating the amount of carbohydrates that I was (food pyramid amounts), will cause weight gain.

What I have found is that when we stop eating 300 - 400 grams of grains that the food pyramid shows (which equals 1-1/2 - 2 cups of sugar in our blood), our body becomes much more efficient at burning fat.  This reduction in grains and sugars is something that can be done gradually (and doing it sometimes is better than not doing it at all).  It's the 80/20 rule.  You can ease your way into it, or do as I did and jump in head first.

But increasing your fat intake in the process is crucial and extremely satiating.  It's a very satisfying way of eating and losing weight.  No more hunger and deprivation.  I'll write more about application of this in later blogs.  (But if you want to get started on the application you should think about purchasing the newly released book written by an award winning science writer Gary Taubes called "Why We Get Fat", and What We Can Do About It".)

Or, you can go to this link for a booklet on foods choices to purchase for health from the Weston A. Price Foundation.  Click here "Healthy 4 Life" and then click on the pdf file to view a copy of this colorful booklet.  Also, you can view the Video Press Conference, below this blog write up, for a Critique of the new Food Pyramid from Experts in Nutrition and Science (including an MD) showing the real science being ignored.  See how this new unhealthy food pyramid effects our children the most.

So here it is.  I think that the government's dietary recommendations have led us down a destructive path of an unhealthful way of eating, and that the food pyramid, as it's designed, makes us fat and sick.  If we follow this agenda, we are feeding our children a diet that is going to make them unhealthy.

Thanks to the speech showing below, the "Big Fat Fiasco" by Tom Naughton of the funny and informative documentary Movie on DVD, "Fat Head" (link showing in blog roll), I finally got it!

What happened is that I picked up a sort of obscure newsletter called "Well Being Journal" and there was a few brief paragraphs that mentioned the crux of the "Big Fat Fiasco" speech and the link to it.  It stuck in my head to view it, and I couldn't get it out of my head, so a few days later I did.  I am so glad that I did.  It has opened my eyes and I am seeing clearly now; about what the hell has been happening in my pursuit for health, and the lack of results, to a very persistent and determined effort to an ideal body weight.

I highly encourage you to view the Video of the Speech I have posted below this blog and see just how these "guidelines", that we have been indoctrinated with, all came about, without scientific evidence to back them up.  This speech shows why the Science disproves the Lipid Hypothesis (Fat makes you Fat) and disproves the low fat, high carbohydrate way of eating with science based facts.  It shows the Clinical Studies performed, after the guidelines were put out to the public, actually disproving the Lipid Hypothesis (Fat makes you Fat).  It explains why Fat (even Saturated Fat) has been falsely accused of crimes it did not commit and why Cholesterol is necessary for the body and brain.

And most important, to me, it shows that the real victims are the children living with and following these guidelines, and are getting sick and storing excess fat because of them.  Something has to be done!

So I am dedicating this blog to providing information to the readers so they can make informed decisions for themselves based on the Scientific Evidence that is out there, the application to a way of eating that proves successful, and links to the doctors that are speaking out about the myth that Saturated Fat is bad for us and what they have to say abouth the Big Fat Lie we have been told.

I hope this newsletter can help us, so we may effectively help our children.
